Battle of Trenton Simulation & Notes Activity
Battle of Trenton Simulation & Notes Activity
A great way to teach the Battle of Trenton and other major battles of the Revolutionary War!
It starts with an image analysis for Bell Work and then students record notes on a graphic organizer on the New York and New Jersey Campaigns, Battle of Trenton, and then the Battle of Princeton. They need to include just 7 words in their notes to practice summarizing information from the powerpoint notes.
The teacher will use the powerpoint to go through the battles as students summarize the details for each. THEN- the fun begins!
Pause at the Battle of Trenton and before students learn what happen, they break from the notes and are directed to a website (QR code right in the powerpoint) that has a fun and skill-building simulation that has students act as General Washington and make decisions on what to do facing down the superior British Army. They get help from advisors (on the site) and make informed decisions before learning what actually happened!
Then students can complete the rest of the battle notes before one last fun activity. Students then analyze the lyrics to Hamilton song, "Right Hand Man" and answering a couple questions on it. Definitely let them listen to the song too! Dancing is optional :)
INCLUDED: a zipfolder with Notes graphic Organizer, Powerpoint for notes with bell ringer/warmup activity, link to simulation, and song lyrics. Ready to engage your students!
